Parents, if your dependent college bound student is applying for any
type of financial aid or has received any scholarships, you will need to
file a FAFSA application. Apply online at www.FAFSA.ed.gov.
You and your student also need to check with the college(s) to which
applying to determine if they require a CSS PROFILE application to be
filed. College codes are available from each particular college website

COLLEGE ENTRANCE TESTS PSAT, SAT, ACT & SAT SUBJECT TESTS by Mary Jo Sarro
The
college entrance tests are important for college admission, so take
them seriously. Colleges will give students a range of test scores that
they expect. Students can prepare for the tests with an instructor or
by themselves by using one of the many review books. There are various
instructors that offer review classes, in a group setting, as well as
privately. Students, if you decide to prepare alone or with an
instructor, you will still need to invest a lot of time and effort, but
the payoff is huge. Preparation and practice are the keys
to performing at your potential on these important tests. If time
permits you may want to consider retaking the SAT and SAT Subject Tests,
but colleges will see all of your scores, not just the highest ones.
Many private and Ivy League colleges require the SAT Subject Tests, so
check with each college. The PSAT is the standardized test that provides practice for the SAT Reasoning Test. You will need to register for the PSAT exam in your junior year. By taking the PSAT, you have a chance to enter the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) Scholarship programs. The SAT measures critical thinking, reasoning and writing skills students have developed over time and skills they need to be successful academically. Register as early as possible to secure the closest location for taking the test. The ACT is a multiple-choice test which covers four skill areas: English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science. The Writing Test, which is optional, measures skill in planning and writing a short essay. Register as early as possible to secure the closest location for taking the test. SAT Subject Tests (formerly SAT II: Subject Tests) are designed to measure students' knowledge and skills in particular subject areas, as well as their ability to apply that knowledge. This exam is offered in individual subjects. Take at least three subject tests. Register as early as possible to secure the closest location for taking the test. Talk with your Guidance Counselor or Advisor about which tests to take. Just remember, being informed and planning ahead are the watchwords for any important test.Mary

| Shelly Palmer Speaks at Harvard Club of NYC of New Media Age
By CHRISTOPHER A. SARRO casarro@optonline.net Posted June 25, 2009 at 11:40 a.m.
Shelly Palmer, President of the Emmy Awards in New York and the Host of MediaBytes, "updated" his audience at the Harvard Club of New York City on Wednesday night, June 24, 2009 about Twitter, Facebook and other Social Media creations of the Super Digital Age. "With the implementation of the recent upgrade in television from analog to digital this month, nearly everything now is digital, except some radio," Palmer said. "The breakthrough today is Real Time Streaming Data, which is only 24 months old."
Palmer explained that we have moved from a "Static Web" of Websites to a "Dynamic Web" of Weblogs/Blogs to the current "Real Time Web" of Social Networking Sites like Twitter, Facebook and others. "The time of communications as walled gardens is OVER," he exclaimed. "We are rapidly moving to a time of consumer control of media consumption. One-to-many is moving to one-to-one to many-to-one."
Although it may seem new and something to consider in the future to many people, in fact, Social Networking is relevant now to our current lives as witnessed by the events in Iran and the emergence of Twitter to the national and international spotlight. As Shelly Palmer says, "Everyone needs to know that real time data is not going away." With all the paradigm-shifting changes that are transforming the Social Media, it is clear that the "meta-data" is undergoing a "meta-morphasis" into a stunning new reality for the six billion of the world simultaneously to consider.
